After my brief introduction to New York City (here) let us get started in more detail with the Great American journey 🙂
I will share some restaurant and breakfast spots around the Little Italy area (where I stayed). In the end, you can find a map with all the places.

Após uma breve introdução à Cidade de Nova Iorque (aqui) começamos a nossa rota Americana 🙂
Partilho alguns restaurantes, e cafés para o seu pequeno-almoço ao redor da Little Italy (zona onde me hospedei). No fim encontrará, ainda, um mapa com todos estes lugares marcados.

DAY 1

We started our 1st day by visiting the MOMA ( The Museum of Modern Art) after a savory breakfast at “Two Hands”.
For lunch, we decided to try an Indian restaurant nearby the museum, the “Bengal Tiger Restaurant”.
Our inicial plan was to reach the Central Station and the Bryant Park after lunch. But since we enjoyed a long lunch, we decided to cut the Bryant Park out of our plans and fitted the Central Station on the following day.
We strolled along the 5th Avenue, descrying amazing Christmas shops decorations, and being amused with all the sparkling lights and the Christmas songs.
We reached the Rockfeller Center to see the tallest NYC’s Christmas tree, and afterwards proceeded to its observation deck, Top of the Rock, where we spent the golden hour. I bought the tickets to the Top of the Rock in advance with the slot hour we wanted.
Because it was Christmas, we saw the light show on Sacks. This event occurs during advent, various times per day, after 5pm approximately.
We finished the day at the Times Square. Going to a musical is a must do once you are there.

DIA 1

Iniciámos o nosso primeiro dia, no MOMA (O Museu de Arte Moderna) após um pequeno-almoço no “Two Hands”.
Para o almoço, decidimos experimentar um restaurante Indiano próximo do MOMA, o “Bengal Tiger Restaurant”.
O nosso plano inicial consistia em visitar a Estação Central e o Parque Bryant após o almoço. Porém, como tivemos um almoço prolongado cortamos o Parque dos nossos planos e inserimos a Estação Central no dia seguinte.
Passeamos pela 5ª Avenida, observamos as lojas decoradas com os enfeites natalícios, ficamos abismados com as luzes e encantados com as músicas de Natal.
Prosseguimos para o Rockfeller Center para ver a grande árvore de Natal Nova Iorquina, e passamos a golden hour no seu miradouro – o Top of the Rock. Adquiri os bilhetes para o Top of the Rock online com a hora de entrada pretendida.
Como estávamos no Natal, vimos um espetáculo de luzes no departamento comercial: Sacks. Este evento ocorre várias vezes por dia, todos os dias do advento, a partir das 17h aproximadamente.
Fechamos o nosso dia na Times Square. Ir a um musical é imperdível, uma vez lá.

DAY 2

We started our 2nd day with a marvelous bagel at “Baz Bagel & Restaurant”.
We visited the 9/11 Memorial but we couldn’t manage to visit the Museum.
After that we caught the ferry (the statue cruises) to the Liberty Island to see one of the city’s most iconic monument, the Liberty Statue. To enter the ferry you have to pass through metal detectors. Don’t bring water, computers and tripods. Schedule all morning for your visit and bare in mind you will probably have to eat on the island.
You can also visit the Ellis island, through where the emigrants got in the USA during the XX century and the beginning of the XIX. The ticket comprises sightseeing both islands. I opted for buying the tickets online and without access to the crown of the Liberty Statue.
In the afternoon, we stopped by Wall Street and took a picture with the infamous bull. 🙂
Afterwards, we caught the subway and we headed to the Central Station, once we missed it the day before.
For a quick snack I tried an american Cupcake at “Georgetown Cupcake”. I used to watch “DC Cupcakes” and I just had to go there and try one 😛 . We went to the SoHo branch. The “Cream cheese frosting” cupcake was my favorite, the best I ever tried.
To finish the day, we explored China Town and had a Chinese dinner at “Joe’s Shanghai“. It was the 1st time my parents used chopsticks. My husband and I got amused at how easily they managed them, much better than in our 1st time. 😀

DIA 2

Iniciámos o nosso segundo dia com uma maravilhosa bagel no “Baz Bagel & Restaurant”.
Visitámos o Memorial do 11 de Setembro, mas não quisemos visitar o museu.
Seguimos para o ferry que nos levaria à Ilha da Liberdade, para ver o monumento da cidade. Para entrar no ferry (statue cruise) terá que passar por detectores de metais. Não leve água, computadores, tripés. É bem provável que almoce no restaurante da Ilha de Liberdade, dedique a manhã toda para a visita. Poderá, ainda, visitar a Ilha Ellis, a principal entrada dos emigrantes no século XX e início do século XIX. O bilhete compreende a visita a ambos os locais. Optei pela compra online e sem o acesso à coroa da Estátua da Liberdade.
De tarde passamos pela Wall Street onde tiramos uma fotografia ao touro. 🙂
E apanhamos o metro para a Estação Central, uma vez que ficou por ver do dia anterior.
Para lanchar tínhamos que provar um Cupcake Americano na “Georgetown Cupcake”. Costumava ver a série “DC Cupcakes” 😛 então esta era uma paragem obrigatória. Compramos os cupcakes na loja de SoHo. Os de frosting de queijo creme eram simplesmente deliciosos, os melhores cupcakes que alguma vez comi. (Adenda: cupcakes, não são madalenas nem muffins)
Para fechar o dia com 5 estrelas, exploramos a China Town e jantamos no restaurante Chinês “Joe’s Shanghai“.
