Copenhagen, København in Danish, is the capital of Denmark.
Denmark is a Scandinavian country bordered by Germany and linked to nearby Sweden by the Öresund bridge. It’s part of the European Union, but it has its own currency, the Danish Krone.
Danish is the official language of Denmark.

A Dinamarca é um país escandinavo que faz fronteira com a Alemanha e está ligado à Suécia pela ponte Öresund. Faz parte da União Europeia, mas possui a sua própria moeda: a coroa dinamarquesa.

WHEN TO VISIT

Last February, I traveled to Gotenburg, in Sweden, for work-related purposes and I decided to extend the journey with a few extra days to explore Copenhagen, which was conveniently close.
I planned my journey with a one-way flight ticket to Gothenburg and a one-way ticket from Copenhagen. The journey between Gothenburg and Copenhagen is less than 3h in a fast train, with a stopover in Malmö (Sweden) before crossing the Öresund bridge. This last part of the trip takes around 30 minutes.
The days we chose to travel to Copenhagen were great. We enjoyed sunny days, with temperatures oscillating between 12 ºC at noon and 2 ºC at night. But Summer must be a better season to enjoy the city, because then you can relax at promenades that were almost non-existent at this time of the year.

I stayed in the city 2 nights, 1 full day and 2 half days. I will share the best things to see, to do, and to eat in roughly 2 full days in this beautiful city. Stay tuned!

QUANDO VISITAR

Em Fevereiro fui a Gotemburgo, na Suécia, por motivos de trabalho e decidi prolongar a minha visita e explorar Copenhaga durante o fim-de-semana seguinte.
Então, optei por comprar um bilhete de avião só de ida para Gotemburgo e o bilhete de volta com regresso de Copenhaga. A viagem entre Gotemburgo e Copenhaga, de comboio rápido, demora menos de 3 horas, com uma mudança em Malmö (Suécia) antes de cruzar a ponte Öresund. Esta última parte da viagem leva cerca de 30 minutos.
A altura da visita foi óptima. Aproveitamos dias de sol com temperaturas máximas a rondar os 10-12ºC e as mínimas os 2ºC. O Verão deverá ser uma boa época para aproveitar a cidade, pois poderá relaxar nas esplanadas que nesta altura eram quase inexistentes.

TRANSPORTATION

Our main means of transportation were train, air plane, and bike. We arrived in Copenhagen central train station coming from Sweden.
By the time we had to leave, we flew from the Copenhagen airport, Københavns Lufthavn, Kastrup (CPH), which we reached by taking the connecting train from the central station.
During the stay, we mainly walked or used a bike.

Partimos de Copenhaga desde o aeroporto de Copenhaga, Københavns Lufthavn, Kastrup (CPH). Para aceder ao aeroporto utilizamos um comboio rápido que apanhamos na estação central.
Na cidade, caminhamos ou fizemos uso de bicicleta.

SLEEP

Denmark is one of the countries in the world with higher standard of living. For this reason we decided to sleep in a more affordable double room with a private bathroom in the hostel Urban House Copenhagen by Meininger. This hotel is preciously located near the central station.

A Dinamarca é um dos países mais caros da Europa. Deste modo, decidimos dormir num quarto duplo com casa-de-banho privativa no albergue Urban House Copenhagen by Meininger. Está localizado perto da estação central, o que é um bónus.

Tivoli Gardens

The 19th century amusement park is one of world’s oldest theme parks.
It comprises shops, restaurants, roller coasters, lakes and it is definitely worth a visit. 🙂 It is said that Walt Disney got his inspiration here.
It has 4 themes in accordance with the 4 seasons of the year (Summer, Halloween, Christmas, Winter), but closes some weeks between the seasons for the remodeling. Therefore, when scheduling your trip please check the site to know when it will be open. You can buy the tickets online in advance with or without rides included.

VER & FAZER

Jardins Tivoli

Este parque de diversões do século XIX é um dos parques temáticos mais antigo do mundo. Dizem que Walt Disney se inspirou aqui.
É composto por lojas, restaurantes, montanhas-russas, lagos e vale muito a pena uma visita. 🙂
Tem 4 temporadas temáticas ao longo do ano (verão, dia das bruxas, natal, inverno). Fecha algumas semanas entre as temporadas, por isso, quando agendar sua viagem, verifique no site os horários de abertura. Pode comprar as entradas online com antecedência, com ou sem atrações.

Nyhavn

Nyhavn was a busy commercial port back in 17th century. The area was known for its sailors, ladies of pleasure, and pubs.
The famous Little Mermaid writer, Hans Christian Andersen, lived in one of these colorful houses (number 20).
Today the houses have been renovated and filled with restaurants and sounds of jazz, and other entertainment.
You can take a boat tour through the canals starting here. The tour happens every hour. The guide speaks in Danish and translates the content into English (and even into a third language when the majority of passengers speak German, French, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese). The tour takes around one hour, and along it you will be able to see The Copenhagen Opera House, Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace, the espiral tower of the Church of Our Saviour, the impressive Black Diamond Library, the Little Mermaid Statue, and with some luck your bought will cross paths with some swans (the city’s symbol). The ticket costs 95 DKK and you can buy it on the spot.

Nyhavn

Nyhavn era um porto comercial movimentado no século XVII. A área era conhecida pelos marinheiros, pelas senhoras de prazer e pelos pubs.
O famoso escritor da Pequena Sereia, Hans Christian Andersen, viveu numa dessas casas coloridas (a número 20).
Hoje as casas estão renovadas e repletas de restaurantes e locais para ouvir jazz.
Pode fazer um passeio de barco pelos canais. Há um passeio pelo canal a cada hora, aproximadamente, e é guiado em dinamarquês e inglês (e uma terceira língua: alemão, francês, espanhol, italiano ou português). O passeio dura cerca de uma hora, e durante o passeio poderá ver: a Ópera de Copenhague, o Palácio de Amalienborg, o Palácio de Christiansborg, a torre espiral da Igreja de Nosso Salvador, a impressionante Biblioteca Black Diamond, a estátua da Pequena Sereia e com alguma sorte verá alguns cisnes (o símbolo da cidade). O bilhete custa 95 DKK e pode comprá-lo no local.
